History     

 

The Village of Sheffield was settled in 1815. The existing building at 4350 Colorado Avenue was dedicated on Sunday, April 28, 1957 at 2:00 in the afternoon. The cost of that building was $42,743.11. With this event was also the purchase of a new fire truck, a 750 gpm pumper, from the Howe Fire Apparatus Co. in Anderson Indiana, purchased through the John J. O'Doherty Company in Lorain. The purchase price was $11,337.00 with another $3,722.90 spent in equipment. This joined another fire truck that was purchased on March 12, 1946 at a cost of $5,789.82. The Sheffield Village Fire Department had the following members on that April 28, 1957 dedication date:

Significant events and dates in the Fire Department:

Sheffield Village starts a rescue squad service on December 1, 1972. Bud Brown was the Fire Chief and Lt. Wayne Urig was in charge of the rescue squad service. The first rescue squad was a 1964 Cadillac Ambulance.
