March 5th Declared Amber Wiley Day! - March 5, 2010
WHEREAS, The purpose of the Girls Scouts of America is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens; and WHEREAS, Amber has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout may earn. A national award, with national standards, it represents girls’ time, leadership, creativity and effort contributed to making their community better. For many girls, the leadership and organizational skills and the sense of community and commitment that come from “going for the Gold”, set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship; and WHEREAS, Amber’s special achievements include not only earning the Gold Award but earning the Silver Award at the Cadette level of Scouting as a proud member of Senior Ambassador Troup #760 in Sheffield Lake/Sheffield Village that has been together for 13 years; and is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains a near perfect grade point average; and WHEREAS, Amber, a senior at Brookside High School, organized this years’ “Volley for the Cure” event for the Susan G. Komen Foundation which was held in early October at Brookside High School, and raised well over $2300.00 for the Foundation; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize the unusual dedication and diligence exhibited by Amber in receiving the Gold Award. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, John D. Hunter, Mayor and Safety Service Director in the Village of Sheffield, do hereby declare that March 5, 2010 is Amber Wiley Day in Sheffield Village in honor of her receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of America.
